MODERN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
Over the past 200 years,
energy use in the United States has skyrocketed. This expanded energy
use has brought with it amazing advances - doubled
average life spans, goods and services to support a population of 300
million people, and increased mobility and quality of life for many.
This expanded energy use has also led to many negative externalities
- industrial pollution, waste, the rapid disappearance of countless
species and acres of productive land, and the impending threat of climate
change. Recently, many world scientists and leaders are calling for
the global population to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80%
