Whereas global climate change represents the single most important environmetnal problem that humanity has ever faced;

Recognizing that human-caused greenhouse gas emissions are the major cause of global climate change;

Dually recognizing that innovations in technology and changes in behavior can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the risk of catastrophic damage and loss of life due to an increasingly erratic global climate system;

Noting that California is leading the nation in greenhouse has reduction efforts through the Governor's Initiative, the Mayor's Initiative, state-wide legislation, and other efforts;

Noting in particular that Santa Barbara County, and the tri-county area, is poised to lead the state and the county in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through current intiatives at the campus, community, and county levels;

Therefore, the undersigned group of individuals pledges to work together at the campus, local, state, and national levels to significantly reduce, and then offset, greenhouse gas emissions with the eventual but urgent goal of achieving climate neutrality.
