“Chicago-Kent is seeking real world solutions through the assistance of real word partners. This is an ideal approach when addressing one of the great challenges of the 21st century.”
NAELS Co-Chair, Stephen Janasie, sjanasie@kentlaw.edu, 312-515-7866

This fall, Chicago-Kent’s Program in Environmental and Energy Law (PEEL) is taking on the first of CCN’s law and policy projects. The Kent project will consist of individual student research taken from the position of a selected Illinois stakeholder in the climate debate. The individual research will lead to a paper by each student on their stakeholder’s position. NAELS, PEEL, and the program participants will work to find a real-world partner for each student’s research project. The students will then collaborate to produce model climate change legislation for Illinois, lobbying in the interest of their stakeholder position.

Participating students will register for next semester’s two-credit environmental law seminar; International Environmental Law. In addition, the students will register for a two-credit independent study. Beyond the four-credit commitment in the spring, participating students will work with Professor A. Dan Tarlock this semester in preparation for the spring’s coursework. Clearly, the CCN project will require intense dedication on the part of it participants. However, this work will prove to be a unique and rewarding experience for PEEL students, and the end product will be an impressive accomplishment.

Chicago-Kent is pleased with this collaboration, and its students are enthusiastic about the year’s work!I
