The Environmental Law Society of the
2011 has been quite a year for us as we moved into a new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building. In February, one of our moot court teams, lead by our faculty advisors Professor Stephanie Otts and Professor David Case, won the prestigious Twenty-third Annual National Environmental Law Moot Court Championship at Pace Law School. In March, we were honored once again as one of our members, April Killcreas, won first place in the American Bar Association Section of the Environment, Energy, and Resources (ABA-SEER) Environmental Justice Student Writing Competition, with her paper entitled “The Power of Community Action: Environmental Injustice and Participatory Democracy in Mississippi.” In April we had the amazing opportunity to aid in hosting the ABA-SEER National Symposium on U.S. Environmental Justice and the Law. In September, we were once again honored by co-hosting with the Faculty the Honorable Susan L. Biro, Chief Administrative Law Judge of the EPA, when she visited our school to give a presentation to our members and other students about what it is like to be an administrative law judge for the EPA, entitled “War Stories from the Bench.” Our final event of the year was to co-host with the Faculty another great presentation based on an upcoming article entitled “Federal Constitutions, Global Governance, and the Role of Forests in Regulating Climate Change” by Professor Blake Hudson from the Stetson University College of Law.
We are very proud and honored to have had such a great year so far and are looking forward to achieving another great year in 2012.
