ARTICLE II
DEFINITIONS
Section 1. "Environmental Law Society."
An "Environmental Law Society" is a student organization that
focuses on environmental matters and is located in, sponsored by, or housed
by a law school. An Environmental Law Society can be composed of any number
of members, including a single member.
Section 2. "Environmental Law Student."
Any law school student who is a member of an Environmental Law Society.
Section 3. "NAELS."
The National Association of Environmental Law Societies.
Section 4. "Member" or "Member Society."
An Environmental Law Society which has paid NAELS dues during the last
12 month period, so long as the payment is subsequent to the last Annual
Meeting.
Section 5. "Governing Board."
A group of Environmental Law Students selected to represent NAELS Members
between Annual Meetings.
Section 6. "Governing Board Representative"
or "Representative."
A student, other than a Co-Chair, that serves on the Governing Board.
Section 7. "Chairpersons of the Governing
Board" or "Co-Chairs."
Students selected to serve as Directors and as Chairpersons of the Governing
Board and of the NAELS Members generally.
Section 8. "President."
The person selected by the Board of Directors to serve as President of
NAELS.
Section 9. "NAELS Staff" or "Staff."
Persons who are employed by NAELS.
Section 10. "Executive Director."
The person employed by NAELS to oversee the Staff and manage the day-to-day
activities of NAELS.
Section 11. "Conference Host."
The Environmental Law Society which is hosting the NAELS conference.
Section 12. "Member's Annual Meeting."
The yearly meeting of the Members of NAELS. The Board of Directors will
also have Annual Meetings. When "Annual Meeting" is used in
these by-laws to refer to the annual meeting of the Board of Directors
it shall be labeled as "Annual Meeting."
Section 13. "Annual Conference"
The conference held by and for NAELS Members on an annual basis.
Section 14. "The Main Sectors of Environmental
Law."
These are (1) academia, (2) government, (3) private practice/law firm
practice, and (4) non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
